New Marinas Overseas » Waterfront Properties Thailand

First of all may I wish everyone a very Happy New Year wherever you are in the world, and given that many people head off to warmer climates at this time of year, I thought I would start by looking at one of the wonderful new marinas in Thailand, the Royal Phuket Marina. This is like no other marina you will find anywhere in the world. The location, attention to detail and plannning that have gone into this developement are extraordinary, and the sale of both berths and property has been amazing. The entire area of South East Asia has seen a renaissance in the the last decade, with Phuket leading the way in the region and with the increasing popularity of the boat show, this looks set to continue.
This marina is one of Asia’s most sophisticated, high-tech yachting havens and combines a world-class destination with luxury waterfront living and a state of the art marina. The marina is now fully operational and phases 2 and 3 of the residential development, which started in 2007, are now almost complete. The marina has recently been awarded the prestigious “Marina Five Gold Anchors Award” by the British Marine Federation. This is the highest honour to be given to a marina, the only other in the region being Raffles.

Living or holidaying at any marina is special and the lifestyle at Royal Phuket Marina is truly unique. You’ll live in the heart of Asia’s most stunning marine environment, with the world-famous Phang Nga Bay just 20 minutes away by boat. The weather is perfect almost all year round, and is ideal for sailing, alllowing you to explore the many islands dotted around the Andaman se, including the famous Phi Phi island featured in the James Bond film ” The Man With The Golden Gun” - having been there myself I would urge you to go if possible - it is very beautiful and a wonderful day trip that you will never forget.

The residential developement is in two parts, namely the Aquaminium and The Royal Villas. My own favourite is the former, as these are apartments and condominiums that have been built around the marina, offering what I believe is the perfect and affordable property for boat owners, with your yacht moored within a few steps of the apartment. Alongside your yacht is one of the finest shopping experiences, with world class restaurants, both local and international, designer shops and spa and beauty salons lining the waterfront - what could be better!!!

If you have slightly deeper pockets, then I would suggest you have a look at the Royal Villas developement within the marina. These are the only residences in Phuket to feature private yacht berths. Situated at the foot of each waterfront estate, the berths accommodate vessels of up to 25 metres and benefit from Royal Phuket Marina’s full range of professional services. Not cheap, but they are truly exquisite with plunge pools and stunning interior decor. Along with these villas the marina provides a full concierge service, from delivery of hampers to full maintenance for your vessel. If you can afford one, these are the ultimate!

The marina itself has 450 berths from 10 metres up to 35 metres, and is fully serviced with all utilities. Internet access via wi-fi is available throughout the marina and all services are available including cradle and boat stands, chandlery, and repairs. Depth of water in the marina is 3.5 - 4 metres at low tide. Chartering of your yacht is permitted and you would need to discuss this with the marina manager.

The entire development is due for completion in 2010 so I would have a look at it as soon as possible. Sales have been strong with Phase 1 and most of Phase 2 sold out and some propeties appreciating by as much as 70% in 18 months. Ownership by foreign nationals is encouraged and is secure, and in addition properties can also be rented while you are not in residence.

What more can I say - an exceptional marina with world class facilities in a stunning part of the world.
