You have hit the nail on the head. There are some charming nooks in Sicily but generally the island is spoiled by the attitudes of it’s local government and lack of inward investment…even the mainland Italians don’t want to got there. I was totally unimpressed with Catania on several visits over the past 10 years – dusty, smelly and overpriced for visitors. Cairo, at least, has some elegant areas.

Interested to see that you have been busily visiting many of the Marina developments I am marketing. Suprised that you have not been in touch with us regarding your visit to Licata. I could recommend some splendid hotels, retsaurants, together with fantastic Sicilian food and wines.
Plus the Marina in Genoa and Sant Carles.
